He vomited overnight and was dehydrated and quiet this morning. Because his condition is still so fragile, we decided to bring him to the ER immediately, rather than waiting to see if his condition changed after his morning insulin and SQ fluids.
Clinically, Stanley had been doing really well with his Juvenile Diabetes + Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) treatment protocol until late last night/this morning. He has slowly and steadily gained weight (from 1.88kg to 2.16kg over several weeks), and has been eating well, playing up a storm, and feeling much better.
Unfortunately, initial tests this morning revealed he has become acidotic once again, which is life-threatening. His blood glucose increased significantly between our test this morning and his test when he arrived at the ER. He has once again been admitted to the ICU and is receiving IV fluids and an insulin drip while they perform more tests and monitor closely.
We are expecting him to need another 5-7 days in the ICU while they try to get him stabilized and reevaluate his case to see if there is anything else going on. As with his first hospitalization, the next 24 hours will be critical for Stanley.
Thank you so much for loving and valuing this complicated little feral cat as much as we do.
