2020 Skoda SUPERB iV Hybrid Sedan Unveiled
2020 Skoda Superb iV hybrid revealed: pricing, specs and release date - Mid-life update for the Skoda Superb executive car brings plug-in hybrid variant, while the Citigo city car is also going electric...
Calling a car the Superb is a bit like christening a ship the Unsinkable. And yet the current version of Skoda’s executive car has shown itself to be fully worthy of the moniker, so how do you try to improve it? The answer, it seems, is by introducing a plug-in hybrid variant: the Skoda Superb iV.

The first of a range of electrified, iV branded models that Skoda will launch over the next few years, it allies a 1.4-litre petrol engine with an 85kW motor for a combined output of 215bhp.

CO2 emissions of less than 40g/km should make it particularly appealing to company car drivers. Plus, official WLTP tests suggest the Superb iV can travel up to 34 miles on electric only power.
Three diesel engines and three petrols are also available, with power outputs ranging from 118bhp to 268bhp.

The new hybrid is being introduced at the same time as a range of mid-life updates, with all Superbs now featuring a reshaped front grille and a chrome strip between the taillights. Meanwhile, inside Skoda has tried to liven things up by introducing further chrome highlights, along with seat covers that feature contrasting stitching.

Matrix LED headlights, which can automatically alter their high beam to illuminate the road without dazzling other drivers, are an option on a Skoda for the first time, as is a predictive cruise control system, which knows when roundabouts and sharp bends are coming up and adjusts the car’s speed accordingly.
The Superb iV will go on sale early next year, and while pricing is still to be announced, it’s only likely to be available with high-end trims.

What Skoda has already confirmed is that it will be joined in the iV line-up by a fully electric version of the Citigo city car, with an official range of 165 miles. This can be recharged from zero to 80% in an hour using a 40kW fast charger.
