Arsenal supporters are up in arms about receiving only a 6,000 allocation for the clash with Chelsea in Baku and about the obscene cost of travel and accommodation.
And in a bitter irony, those who can’t go are being hit twice by football’s money men.
Arsenal announced on their website that they would not be able to repeat previous screenings of big matches because “extensive works” had already begun at the Emirates.
But Sunsport has confirmed that those “extensive works” are in areas for well-heeled supporters – the same kind of people Uefa is packing into the stadium in faraway Azerbaijan for the final.
The new facilities at the Emirates will include The Avenell Club, a new private members’ club at Executive Box Level.
The club say it will “offer wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling glass with panoramic views of the pitch, and high quality and varied food and beverage options including a live-action chef station and feature cocktail bar”.
Can Arsenal qualify for Champions League next season if they finish fifth, and how else can they reach the European competition?
In addition, fans with Club Level seats will be able to enjoy a revamped Champions Bar and The Highbury Suite being converted into “a lively street market offering a wide range of informal dining options”.
But the swanky renovations mean normal supporters, who already pay some of the highest prices for season tickets in the world, won’t be able to watch the Europa League Final on a big screen at the Emirates.
An Arsenal spokesperson said: “We’ve had some very successful screenings of matches in recent years and we’re disappointed we can’t do it.
“But the plans for the works have been in place for three years and the first phase was done last year.”
Arsenal say that the schedule for the work is so tight that even delaying it by three weeks to allow a screening of the May 29 final could have led to the Emirates not being ready for next season.
And they only have to look down the Seven Sisters Road to rivals Tottenham to see what can happen when construction deadlines slip.
