Hillary Clinton spoke at Hunter College’s commencement ceremony on Wednesday, just hours after Robert Mueller’s first public comments about the special counsel investigation into Russia. Clinton told a crowd of graduates at Madison Square Garden that the Trump administration is not taking enough action to protect the country against further election interference from abroad. “Just today before this graduation ceremony started we heard from the Special Council Robert Mueller who said there were multiple systemic efforts to interfere with our election. And that allegation deserves the attention of every American,” Clinton said. “But what we’ve seen from the administration is a complete refusal to condemn a foreign power who attacked our democracy or even attempt to make the most basic steps to protect our voting systems for the future.” Earlier on Wednesday, Mueller spoke about the investigation. The special counsel refused to exonerate President Trump on obstruction of justice while claiming that criminally charging the president was “not an option.” “Under long-standing department policy, a president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office. That is unconstitutional. Even if the charge is kept under seal and hidden from public view, that, too, is prohibited,” he said in his remarks. “Charging the president with a crime was therefore not an option we could consider.” During her speech, Clinton focused on protecting future elections from foreign interference. She claimed that the administration had refused to act against Russia, “despite the fact that all professionals who study this say more attacks are coming.”
