The first you'll notice about the Vanquish models is their peculiar, angular shape. It's not just as a design study; for the first time we have electronic earmuffs that actually fit the human ear. No more pressing earlobes and cartilage into the side of your head. How about fitting neatly inside the foam surround? Pretty cool. The less visible, but certainly audible, difference is in the sound quality. This stereo unit collects sound all around the head and reproduces it with greater fidelity than your average electronic hearing protectors. You'll hear the mids and lows with an emphasis on the highs - a smart EQ for us hunters. Tonal balance aside, the really trick feature here is the compression of loud sounds, which kicks on in less than 1 millisecond and doesn't really crush the background sound. The Champion Vanquish should make it much easier to hear game after the round has gone off, and to keep a conversation going at the noisy range.
This basic model is starting out around $70, but I expect prices to drop to about $50 very soon. And if you need Bluetooth capability, there are two high-end models available as well.
