UK Prime Minister Theresa May warned the Russian government to stop the "pattern of irresponsible activity" if they want a normalisation of relations with the United Kingdom, during a post-G20 press conference in Osaka on Saturday.

May said that she had told Russian President Vladmir Putin that "there can only be a normalisation of our bilateral relationship if Russia stops the pattern of irresponsible activity that threatens the UK and its allies," citing the Salisbury incident as an example of purported Russian interference.

UK-Russia relations have been frosty since Russia's alleged poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with nerve agent Novichok last year.

Tensions in the Gulf were also at the forefront of May's speech, with the Prime Minister stating that "escalation is in no one's interest" and urging all sides to engage through diplomacy to find a solution.

May also encouraged other countries to act on climate change, after US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to withdrawing from the Paris Agreement.

Leaders of 19 of the most influential countries in the world and the European Union met in Osaka on Friday and Saturday for the 14th Group of 20 Summit to discuss climate change, free trade, and economic inequalities among other issues.
