Big Data, the Internet of Things and Smart Building technology is converging and exploding at an accelerating pace and fundamentally changing the facilities management profession. With sensor and data-rich environments on our campuses, early maturing technologies like Fault Detection & Diagnostics are leveraging data analytics to move the industry’s service mode from reactive to predictive and from preventative maintenance to condition-based maintenance. Further, the next generation of disruptive technologies, based on Augmented Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence, will expand and broaden the impact on the profession as we accelerate into the Smart Campus future. The time is now for senior facilities leaders to adopt emerging technologies and to ride this technological wave rather than be consumed by it.
