What’s going on guys! In today’s video, I'm going to be going over the BIGGEST squat tip you're probably making at the gym. I'll also go over why to fix it and how to fix it so you can get more out of each every rep on the squat.
The main thing that you want to avoid when you're going into a squat is sticking your butt out. The only real explanation I could see for this mis-used cue is to avoid people from putting too much weight on their toes (which would cause your heels to come up and cause knee pain.) However, still not a good reason to be sticking your butt out. So AVOID THIS!
The first reason you don't want to push your butt out is when you do stick your butt out this causes your lower back muscles to automatically start firing at the top of the movement, before even moving any weight. This is a major problem and will cause constant stress on your lower back during the entire exercise.
The second reason is because when you're going down into a squat if your butt is way back it's going to very hard to get a good contraction on your glutes. It's going to be more difficult to get that mind muscle connection you need since you won't be getting that good lockout of the glutes.
The third reason is because you are placing way too much stress on your hips as you do this mistake. There was a study done that when people performed the squat while avoiding their knees going past their toes - there was over 1000x more pressure placed on their hips and very minimal on their knees.
