Improving picking speed and accuracy is super important if you want to really push your guitar playing to the next level. This takes a ton of time and practice to really master, but Gary will show you a few ways to really work on your picking technique.
First of all, whenever you practice something like a scale or a riff, you must keep a very relaxed grip on your pick. Make sure your wrist and your arm are always in control.
Secondly, make sure you use as little movement and effort as possible. If you move your hand too much, it takes more time, and it really slows you down. Every time you hit the string, you want to hit it just enough so that the pick hits the string, making the sound. Make sure to avoid wide or big movements.
One of the most important tips that you've surely heard of on this channel before it so play and practice super slow. The best and fastest guitar players learn how to play something very slowly. When you learn something super slow, it gives yourself time to comprehend the timing, and when you fully understand it, you then speed it up. It helps to use a metronome!
