-Technical Info-

There is sparse and inconsistent information regarding playing 16 inch transcription discs. This disc does not have a metal core which usually indicates vinyl instead of lacquer.

Record label indicates it should be played at 33.3 rpm, outside start, and with the NAB Standard.

Recorded using the Metzner Starlight 60A turntable with an Audax KT-16 tonearm. The GE VR II cartridge is mono only and cannot play vertically-cut inside-start transcription discs (also used in Fallout).

The GE VR II features a turn-around stylus for microgroove LP and wider standard groove 78. The 78 stylus was used.

Other 16 inch transcription disc labels instruct not to use stylus pressure above 2 oz (57 g). The Audax is a high mass tonearm and the GE VR II cartridge recommends 4 to 8 g.

Modern microgroove vinyl cartridges use a tracking force at about 2.5 g. Standard groove 78s, however, require a higher tracking force on modern turntables, otherwise the stylus may fall out of the faster moving, wider groove.

This is a standard groove vinyl disc. After experimentation, 4.5 g (0.16 oz) of tracking force was used.

Recorded flat using a JVC AX-44 integrated amplifier. The NAB Standard curve was applied for broadcast transcriptions as described on "Playback equalization for 78 rpm shellacs and early 33⅓ LPs" wiki page.
