For purposes of this video, the "inside of the knee" will refer to the medial knee, or the part that is closest to the other knee.
The inner knee can be affected by a variety of painful conditions or damage, which will be outlined and described briefly here.
Inner knee pain may be short-term or chronic. In mild cases, a person can treat the pain at home using rest and exercises, ice packs and pain relievers.
Here are some of the causes of Pain On The Inside Of The Knee?
Injury
An injury during sports activity or exercise is the most obvious -- and most frequent cause of inner knee pain.
Pain can also result from trauma, like a fall or a vehicle accident.
Sprain or tear
Another common cause of inner knee pain is a sprain or a tear in the medial collateral ligament or MCL.
These happen most often during sports activity where there has been excessive twisting and turning of the MCL. Swelling and pain are immediate and obvious symptoms.
Torn meniscus
The meniscus is the protective cartilage that lines the knee joint. When you tear a certain area of this cartilage, you may feel pain in the inner knee. You can also wear down meniscus tissue over time as you get older. This will cause discomfort whenever you move your knee.
Knee osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is another cause of knee pain that is most likely to occur as you age. Arthritis causes a breakdown or erosion of knee cartilage. A common symptom of knee osteoarthritis is pain when you first get up in the morning.
Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is different from osteoarthritis in that it's actually an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in the body. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause severe inner knee pain, which is, once again, typically worse in the morning.
Bursitis
Bursitis is caused by inflammation in a small, fluid-filled tissue in the knee called a bursa (plural: bursae). Bursae prevent muscles, tendons, and bones from rubbing together.
Inflammation of a bursa, caused by an acute injury or overuse of the knee joint, can trigger inner knee pain.
