However, the difference between the two omega types, and why omega 3 is so critical to your wellbeing today, is that most of the western world's population is highly skewed towards the omega 6 body intake.

And the main provider of omega 6 fatty acids are the producers and manufacturers of our processed foods.

Now, the reason why this is alarming and out of control is because omega 6 is an inflammatory strain of fatty acid, whereas omega 3 is an ANTI-inflammatory strain.

Each has a role to play in the health and wellbeing of your body.

Omega 6 helps to protect your body from infections and injuries, however, excessive and chronic amounts of omega 6 can create ailments and contribute to various diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, dementia, and even cancer.

The omega 3s, on the other hand, act by reducing this excessive and, sometimes, chronic inflammation, hence being referred to as anti-inflammatory.

Because these fatty acids are not produced naturally by your body, you obtain them from your food, and herein lies the problem - you're eating the wrong food!

And because of this, the ratio between omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids is out of balance - woefully out of balance!

A recommended balance is typically 3:1 or less, ideally 1:1.

However, it's reckoned that a typical ratio is about 15:1.

Accordingly, a typical western diet involves eating far too much food containing omega 6s in relation to omega 3s, and it's this that's creating a very serious health problem.
