Healthcare Disparity – A physician and patient perspective

Healthcare Disparity – A physician and patient perspective Dr. Lee Kirksey, Vascular Surgeon and Vice Chairman of Vascular Surgery is joined by Dr. Umesh Khot, Section Head Section Head, Regional Cardiology and Director of Quality in the Heart and Vascular Institute and patient Herb Pleasant to talk about health care disparities. Together they cover issues related to minority and lower socio-economic disparities and the need to develop trust in the health care system to initiate care. It is important to identify risk factors earlier in life, establish a diagnosis and treatment plan, and find a doctor who is willing to work together with the patient to adjust together. Herb also talks about the role of family in health care decisions and motivation. This presentation provides insight into both the patient and physician perspectives.
