Barbara Jordan On Impeachment & A President Attempting To Subvert The Constitution Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, on July 25 1974, during the Watergate hearings, clearly broke down clearly the importance of a president following the Constitution and the process of impeaching a president who had committed "high crimes and misdemeanors"

Jordan explained to Congress, impeachment was "designed as a method of national inquest into the conduct of public men. The framers confided in the Congress, the power of need be to remove the president in order to strike a delicate balance between a president swollen with power and grown tyrannical and preservation of the independence of the executive. The nature impeachment, a narrowly channeled exception to the separation of powers maximum."
