Barcelona make decision on sacking Ernesto Valverde now amid Xavi contract claims

Barcelona have been linked with Xavi amid the struggles of Ernesto Valverde.

Barcelona have decided they don’t see much merit in sacking Ernesto Valverde at the current time, according to reports. The Spaniard has found himself under pressure after the club’s exit from the Spanish Super Cup. And there have even been claims Xavi has received a contract offer to take over.

Barcelona boss Valverde went into the season under pressure, having failed to win the Champions League or Copa del Rey last season.

And the Spaniard has failed to live up to expectations, with the club enduring a mixed campaign.

They remain on course to win the La Liga title but only sit above Real Madrid on goal difference.

Barcelona had been hoping to win the Spanish Super Cup but they were rocked by Atletico Madrid on Sunday, with Diego Simeone’s side winning 3-2.

In the wake of that defeat, it’s been claimed that Valverde may lose his job at Barcelona with Xavi supposedly receiving a contract to take over.

Many at Barcelona aren’t sold on Valverde.

He’s not been able to implement a truly stunning style of play like predecessors Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.
