Popping on the kettle for your morning cuppa? Make sure it's a green tea, say researchers, after discovering it can help you live a longer and healthier life.
In fact, habitual green tea-drinking has been found to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and extend life by a year and two months.
As part of the new study conducted in China, researchers analysed the behaviour of 100,902 participants with no history of heart attacks, strokes or cancer. They then divided them up into two groups: the first group were those who drank green tea at least three times a week, and the second hardly drank it at all.
To get a clear and concise result on the benefits of drinking tea, the participants were followed up for seven years after the original test.
They found that those who drank green tea regularly had 20% lower risk of heart disease and stroke, compared to those that had no tea at all.
