Search for worker still missing after Spain explosion

Search for worker still missing after Spain explosion (15 Jan 2020) The search has resumed for a worker who has been missing since a massive explosion at a petrochemical plant in northeastern Spain on Tuesday night which killed one person and injured eight others.

Regional firefighters in Catalonia said on Wednesday morning that 30 firefighting crews worked through the night to extinguish the massive fire near the city of Tarragona on the Mediterranean coast.

A preliminary investigation indicated the force of the blast killed an individual in a nearby neighbourhood when a piece of metal hit his home.

The eight injured were workers at the plant.

Fire chief Albert Ventosa said on Wednesday that the fire was under control and there was no danger to the exterior of the plant.

Authorities are investigating the cause of what they described as a "chemical accident".
