Hauwa's story: Pregnant and detained without trial or charge

After living in foster care throughout her teenage years, adulthood was supposed to be a fresh start for Hauwa.
 
Life was supposed to get easier.
 
But instead…that’s when the real nightmare began.
 
It was a nightmare that ended in her being captured by Kenyan, American and Ethiopian troops while pregnant.
 
She was detained for 3 months without trial or charge, before eventually being released.
 
This ordeal ended in the death of both her brother and husband: the only men she’d ever known and trusted.
