Definition of posology. (what is posology?) define posology.

Posology is the branch of medical science deals with the quantity of drug or dose of the drug.

The word posology is derived from two Greek words “posos” means How much and “logos” means Science.

2. Bodyweight
3. Sex
4. Route of administration
5. Time of administration.
6. Presence of disease.
7. Environmental Factor.
8. Emotional Factor.
9. Accumulation

1. Age:-
Children and old people require less dose than an adult due to less capacity of metabolizing or excreting function t.(except some drug like Belladona)

2.Bodyweight:-
Heavily built patient requires a larger dose than normal-weight patients.

3.Sex:-
Females require less dose than male due to the difference in body weight and physique.
The dose of the female must be moderate during their menstruation, pregnancy, and lactation.

7.Antagonism :-
When the action and duration of one drug gets decreased by other drug, the phenomenon is called antagonism
Example:- Adrenaline (vasoconstriction) with acetylcholine(vasodilator)

8.Idiosyncrasy:-
Some persons may produce abnormal reaction of the drug in amount of standard dose
Example:- Morphine produce excitation in some individual, Specially in women, although normally it depresses central nervous system.
