Achieving Net-Zero: Oxford Town Hall, 10th September 2019

Achieving Net-Zero: Oxford Town Hall, 10th September 2019 In announcing legislation to commit the UK to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, former Prime Minister Theresa May said: "Ending our contribution to global warming by 2050 should be the defining decision of this generation in fulfilling our responsibility to the next." But how will it be done and what are the implications?

To discuss this, a public meeting was held on Tuesday 10th September at the Oxford Town Hall. Members of the public heard and posed questions to key participants of the international conference, Achieving Net Zero (www.netzero.org.uk), which explored the social, political, ethical, ecological, governance and technical opportunities and challenges of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The speakers on the panel were Craig Simmons, Lord Mayor of Oxford; Amory Lovins, Cofounder and Chief Scientist of Rocky Mountain Institute; David Hone, Chief Climate Advisor for Shell; Radhika Khosla, Research Director of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development; and EJ Fawcett, Oxford Youth School Strikes for Climate.

This event was co-organised by the Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford; the Oxford Martin School; and the Oxford Climate Society.
