A Berlin-based journalist who was due to speak at a press freedom conference in Brisbane has had her visa denied by the Australian Government. The award-winning journalist from Cameroon was scheduled to give a keynote address today.
Mimi Mefo's visa was refused on the grounds that she might try to stay in the country illegally.
Immigration authorities claimed they weren't satisfied her 'employment and financial situation' were sufficient enough for her to return to Germany.
Ms Mefo has accused the Australian Government of trying to silence her. Australia's Department of Home Affairs says it won't comment on individual cases.
