Bolivia's Mesa denies coup d'etat took place

Bolivia's Mesa denies coup d'etat took place (11 Nov 2019) Bolivian opposition leader Carlos Mesa said Monday that former President Evo Morales was brought down by a popular uprising, not the military.

Mesa's comments are part of a growing dispute over whether Morales' resignation a day prior was the result of a military coup.

On Monday, some streets of La Paz were largely quiet, while others were blocked by barricades.

Many businesses had closed and long lines formed outside banks as Bolivians attempted to withdraw cash from ATMs.
