It looks like oak burl but it's just a piece of oak with especially twisted grain that I cut from an oak 1x4. I figured it would make a nice pen and looks like I was right. 10-coat CA finish, polished like glass.
It's not a burl, just an especially gnarly grained piece of red oak.
