xià dìng jué xīn ( yào + verb )

tā xià dìng jué xīn yào xué xí hàn yǔ
She made up her mind to learn Chinese.

不再bú zài
no longer; not anymore
我不再爱你了
我不再愛你了
wǒ bú zài ài nǐ le
I don’t love you anymore.

为了 [+ noun or verb]
wèi le
in order to; for
为了买电脑，他每天加班
為了買電腦，他每天加班
wèi le mǎi diàn nǎo ， tā měi tiān jiā bān
In order to buy a computer, he works overtime every day.

尽管…还是…
jǐn guǎn … hái shì …
Despite; in spite of
尽管下雨了，我们还是去游泳
儘管下雨了, 我們還是去游泳
jǐn guǎn xià yǔ le ， wǒ men hái shì qù yóu yǒng
In spite of rain, we still went swimming .

尽力 [+ verb]
jìn lì
do/try one’s best
我必须尽力帮助他
我必須盡力幫助他
wǒ bì xū jìn lì bāng zhù tā
I must try my best to help him.

除了 [+ noun or verb]
chú le
besides; in addition to
除了德语，她还会说日文
除了德語，她還會說日文
chú le dé yǔ ， tā hái huì shuō rì wén
Besides German, she can also speak Japanese.

不但…而且…
bú dàn … ér qiě
not only…but also…
这苹果不但可口,而且便宜
這蘋果不但可口, 而且便宜
zhè pín guǒ bú dàn kě kǒu , ér qiě pián yi
This apple is not only delicious but also cheap.

而不是 [+ noun or verb]
ér bú shì
, not; rather than; instead
他选择了茶，而不是咖啡
他選擇了茶，而不是咖啡
tā xuǎn zé le chá ， ér bú shì kā fēi
He chose tea, not coffee.


忍不住 [+ verb]
rěn bú zhù
can’t help
一看到他跌倒, 我忍不住笑了
一看到他跌倒, 我忍不住笑了
yí kàn dào tā dié dǎo , wǒ rěn bú zhù xiào le
Upon seeing him fall down, I couldn’t help laughing.

一…就… yì … jiù …
as soon as…; Upon/On V-ing
他一想到前女友，就觉得难过

tā yì xiǎng dào qián nǚ yǒu ， jiù jué de nán guò
On thinking of his ex-girlfriend, he felt sad.
